Zack Arnold: I am here today with Mira and Jason Calton. These are returning guests of mine, and these may be my favorite people in the fitness and health industry. And they’re the authors of my favorite book recommendation, which is Rich Food, Poor Food. And I actually did a two-part podcast with you guys a couple of months ago. So if listeners want to go back and kind of get the history of where you guys come from, why you do the work that you do, and you want to learn about rich food, poor food. You can just go to fitnessandpost.com/33 or slash 34 to get all the show notes and to listen to the episodes. But the reason that we are here today is to talk about your new book, The Micronutrient Miracle. So thank you so much for being on the show. Oh,
Mira Calton: We’re so thrilled to be here, Zack. Thanks for having us. Thank you.
Zack Arnold: So I was lucky enough to get a proof of this book before its release, and I must say that it is pretty obvious that this is a lifelong passion project. And you guys didn’t just say, “Well, you know what? I have an idea for a book, so let’s do a year of research and sit down and write it and publish it. This thing has got decades worth of information. Am I wrong?
Mira Calton: No, this is this is it’s it’s a big book. It is. It’s a big book, and the cool thing about it is it can be read at numerous different levels. If you just want to go on a program to get healthy, you could just probably just read the program stuff and get a lot out of it. But if you really want to understand and see a lot of the science, I mean, there is so much research and so many studies listed in here that you can do that on that level as well. So yeah, I mean it’s it’s definitely been a project that we’ve just absolutely enjoyed and loved doing, and we’ve been putting people through the program and seeing their incredible results, and that is just that’s thanks enough.
Zack Arnold: Yeah, and there there are a lot of things that I want to get into specifically in the book that I think are just absolute game changers in the health and fitness industry. That we went through kind of an extensive introduction of how you guys met and what inspired you to become micronutrient specialist. So I don’t want to go into that because I only have a certain amount of time with you guys, and I want to maximize that time. But like I said, again, you can hear the whole background on the previous show we did, which is fitnessimpost.com/33, but I want to get right into this book. What’s it all about, and what the idea is behind the micronutrient miracle? But where I do want to start, something we hadn’t talked about too much in the previous show, is the Calton Project because that’s kind of the catalyst for where this book came from. So can you guys talk a little bit about the Calton Project, and then we’ll jump right into this book.
Jayson Calton: Sure. Well, you know, after you know, and again, when people go back and listen to 33 and 34 they’re going to learn that Mira and I met because she had advanced osteoporosis. So we spent a lot of years reversing that. Afterwards, we looked at each other and said, “Well, you know, what do you want to do? And I said, “Let’s go and really study cultures like what Weston A. Price did back in the 30s, and let’s go out and do something, you know, kind of our own project. So we called that the Calton Project. And when we first began, we didn’t know how many years it was going to go, but in all, it actually ended up lasting seven years. And we traveled to 135 countries on all seven continents. And the main goal of that expedition was really to go and study the dietary and lifestyle habits of remote tribes and just people all around the world to try to figure out: Is there a universal truth to nutrition? Is there something that is absolutely true for everyone? Because you know, when it really comes to diet and nutrition, you know, you’ve got a lot of opinions out there, and not only a lot of opinions, you have some very strong opinions. You have people who will swear up and down that the only way you can be healthy is to follow a plant-based diet and a vegan or vegetarian, and then you have people who will swear up and down the other way and throw research at you that the only way to do it is to follow a low-carb paleo-style diet. And they both have their reasoning behind it. And it sometimes is very hard for just a basic individual to say, you know, what’s right. I mean, is there really is there anything that is true? Is absolutely true no matter what? And while we found quite a few actual truths in nutrition on on our travels, the main kind of the core of what we have become and become known for over these last few years really is what we consider to be the common denominator of nutrition, and that is that micronutrient sufficiency is absolutely essential if optimal health is to be achieved, and that’s that’s basically what we learned. What was fascinating because we saw so many different cultures and so many different tribes eating completely different diets, and yet when we started to evaluate what they had in common, they had these the sufficiency in micronutrients. So we’ve been bringing that back to America, and we call that in this book, and we kind of introduced it in earlier books. Our Nutrivore concept, instead of a person being a paleo or primal or vegetarian or vegan, what we say is whatever your dietary philosophy, that’s your deal, that’s your personal belief system. But as long as you you become micronutrient sufficient and create micronutrient sufficiency as your foundation. Then you can build your any dietary philosophy platform on top of that, and you can achieve optimal health. You can lose weight, you can increase your energy, and you can reverse and prevent disease. And I think that’s I think ultimately that’s why people turn to nutrition.
Zack Arnold: Well, and that that’s really the thing that’s the game changer for me with. This book and the thing that really opened my eyes is to go back on what you just said about all these different dietary philosophies. I literally lose sleep every time that I listen to a new podcast or read a new book, and it’s somebody that has a totally different philosophy than somebody else, and says, “Well, this is the way to go. And I pull my hair out because I’ve been following a bulletproof-ish type diet, not strict by any means, and I know you guys are close friends with Dave Asprey, know all about the bulletproof movement. So I’ve been going kind of high fat, low carb, eating very clean foods, and then I started following somebody that is a plant based vegan and endurance athlete, and he’s talking about all of these things that are wrong with eating animal proteins and everything else, and everybody has the right answers, and everybody has the wrong answers. And I’m like, I just give up. All I want to do is eat healthy food and know that I’m eating the right things for my body. And I don’t want to be a part of these debates. I don’t want to say, well, paleo’s best, or vegan is best, or South Beach is best. Like, I just want something that says, here’s how to eat, regardless of whatever dietary philosophy there is, and that answer did not exist until now. And as soon as I read that in your book, it was just like the skies open. And I said, “Halla fricking luia! There’s finally a way that I can feel like I can eat whatever of the healthy foods I want, and not feel like I’m doing the right thing or the wrong thing, or I’m going to get stuck in a debate with somebody. Thank
Mira Calton: You. There’s there’s so much infighting between these communities, and it’s it’s one of the reasons that we don’t get anywhere in nutrition. It’s one it’s one of the things that leaves people not achieving their own goals because they don’t know who to listen to anymore. And the truth is that there’s junk food that’s vegan. There’s junk food that’s bulletproof. There’s junk food that’s paleo. There’s junk food in every single one of them, but there’s also something else. There’s nutrient-rich food in every single one of these different philosophies, and that’s what we say. Whatever path you’re on, just choose the most nutrient-dense foods in that path.
Zack Arnold: Yeah, and I think that’s a brilliant way to look at it. And speaking of nutrient-dense, kind of the the new favorite thing that I recommend to everybody that I use as a staple in my diet is the micronutrient powder that you sell called Nutrients, and there’s a lot of information about that in the previous podcast as well. But as I had mentioned, there I took a micronutrient panel, a Spectracell panel, where they test your blood and look at all your micronutrient levels, and I got a 99.9% and I was I was one literally one point short on choline of all things. I’m like, really, I was that close. If I had eaten one more egg that morning before the blood test, I would have gotten 100% But that’s fairly unheard of, and I’m pretty convinced that one of the main reasons that I did that is because of your nutrients product, which I now recommend like drinking water. It’s like literally wake up in the morning, take the stuff, take it in the afternoon. It’s absolute gold. And that’s
Mira Calton: The micronutrient marital protocol. We don’t tell everyone that they have to, but one of the three steps in creating sufficiency is proper supplementation. So that’s why we created nutrients because we didn’t have any other forms of proper supplementation that we could really find on the market. Right. I’m glad you got that score. That’s awesome. Yeah,
Zack Arnold: And that that’s one of the debates that I know comes up a lot in these dietary communities, and it’s a question that I’m asked personally by people a lot. Is well, should I supplement or not, and why can’t I just eat real food? And I know that that’s something you guys talk about a lot in the book and just in your philosophies as well. So what I want to do before getting into some of the the program oriented things in the book specifically, and what we can do to move forwards and follow the micronutrient miracle. I want to give people the really scary bad news, and you guys say that micronutrient deficiency is the most widespread and dangerous health condition of the 21st century. So, talk to me a little bit about what that means and why we should be so focused on micronutrients and not just thinking. Well, I need to have the right balance of carbs and fats and proteins. Why are micronutrients so important? Well,
Mira Calton: Absolutely. So you had said two things. So we say that it’s the most widespread and dangerous condition of the 21st century. And let’s just start with widespread. When you start thinking about what would make something widespread, you say, “Well, okay, we hear about a lot of different diseases in the news all the time. So, like things like cancer, you’d say that cancer is really widespread. A lot of people are suffering from that. You’d say that diabetes is really widespread. You’d probably say that hypertension is really widespread, and osteoporosis is really widespread. But if you look at all four of those conditions, and you take anyone suffering from all four of those horrible conditions and put them all into one big pocket, that is only half of the number of people who are currently micronutrient deficient in the United States. I mean that’s freaky if you think about that. You get all this news about how bad these diseases are, and all of those people would still only become up to half the number of people that are micronutrient deficient.
Jayson Calton: Yeah, and that’s based on the USDA’s own NANS numbers. And of course, I mean, we go into the book about how the USDA bases those deficiencies on something called the EAR, which is which isn’t even anywhere near as bad
Mira Calton: As it really is.
Jayson Calton: It’s really if we did it on the RDI. Which is kind of what the DV on food products. When you look at a food product and it says, “Oh, it has 20% of your calcium, they’re basing that on DV, which is based on the RDI. The EAR is only like 50% of that. So when you when it says that 93% of the population is deficient in potassium, you’re talking about a much lower level of potassium than the RDI would be requiring. So basically, what the
Mira Calton: U.S. Yeah, the USDA is saying currently already that 90-3% of us are deficient in your micronutrients. So that’s literally nine out of 10 people right now listening can be guaranteed that they’re deficient in at least one, and this not just ends with one. You’re probably deficient in a great number of them, except for Zack Arnold because he takes nutrients.
Zack Arnold: Exactly, and of course, there’s more to it as well. Because the the one thing that I want to be very very cautious of, and I’m sure this is something you guys have to be cautious of as well, is that when you’re suddenly saying, “Well, all you need to do is become micronutrient sufficient, and you don’t have to worry about a dietary protocol, the last thing I want somebody to do is say, “Well, hey, if if I take nutrients twice a day, then I can have my cheeseburgers and my fries again, and I can have all these foods I was eating before because I’m micronutrient sufficient. So how do you guys handle that? Because I’m sure that comes up a lot.
Jayson Calton: Yeah, right. So that’s you know you’ve heard us even in this conversation talk about our three step plan. So when we first of all we are and we mentioned this in the rich food poor food as well. We’re food first people. You know, yes, we came out. We wrote
Mira Calton: That book first,
Jayson Calton: Right? We came out with with nutrients, and we are supplement manufacturers, and we do have a patent on that product, and we’re very proud of that product. But ultimately, we want people to realize that the best way, and probably today, and probably forever, to get your micronutrients in will be through food. Learning how to identify, and a lot of people talk about real food. There’s a whole movement called you know just eat real food. We have kind of an issue with that because unfortunately in today’s world the definition of real food can be somewhat skewed. So we came up with our definition of rich food, and we defined it very specifically. So rich food can’t can’t include things like you know somebody might say well apples apples are real food yeah they’re real food except for the ones that are genetically modified or somebody might say well meat meat’s real food well yeah that’s it is except for the ones that are injected with hormones what we want is we want rich foods that are the highest in micronutrient values and are devoid of anything like hormones and pesticides and GMOs, anything that could be harmful. So that’s the first step.
Mira Calton: And also, there’s so many things that are in your food that are-it’s not you know nutrients is just a supplement that has your micronutrients, it has your essential vitamins and minerals. But there are so many other components to food, and we are literally just starting to learn. We are such babies in this field right now. We’re just starting to learn about all the other phytonutrients and all the components, and all these things all have their place also. And we don’t want you to just supplement because that’s not going to give you all of these other things. Additionally, if you go on that cheeseburger diet or that cheeseburger with a bun diet with French fries cooking like some horrible oil, what you’re doing is you’re actually stripping yourself of micronutrients, and we talk a lot about that in this book because just the toxins that you’re going to be ingesting, and the MSG that you’re going to be ingesting, and the sugar that you’re going to be ingesting, all of these things actually lower your micronutrient levels. So you’d actually be going, you know, you’d take the multivitamin, but then you’d eat the junk, and you’d actually never get any vitamins at all because the jung would counteract it. Yeah,
Jayson Calton: You know I think one other thing we should make clear here is while just taking nutrients isn’t going to work, just eating food unfortunately doesn’t work either. And I know there’s so many people out there right now say, “Oh, okay, no, you know that’s that’s going to push my button. I’m pretty sure that my diet’s clean and I’m eating all the best foods, and I bet my diet is pretty close, if not perfect, to getting all the micronutrients I need. I can tell you, I don’t like to be demonstrative or say 100% but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t. And we’ve done the research to back that up. We’ve looked at every single dietary philosophy, and we’ve looked at how many micronutrients you would get even when you eat as much as three or 4000 calories a day, and it doesn’t come anywhere near. So unfortunately, modern food does not provide the minimum levels of the essential micronutrients that we need to create minimum health. Well,
Zack Arnold: And it’s not like you guys have traveled to 135 countries. Oh wait, hold on a second. Never mind. It’s not like you guys know what you’re talking about or anything. Well, I’m I’m just gonna go ahead and I’m gonna trust you there, and that that’s why I like having you guys on so much because I feel like if anybody out there has actually done the legwork and done what needs to be done to understand micronutrients and has seen it all over the world, it’s you guys. You’ve you’ve saved me a lot of plane tickets because now I don’t have to do that. So I appreciate that. One thing that you had said in there that that really strikes a chord is when you were talking about the different types of variations in the same food. And one thing that you talked about in the book specifically that hit me was eggs, right? Because people say to themselves or to other people, “I just eat real food, right? And a lot of people call eggs one of nature’s perfect foods. Has all the essential amino acids, and it’s kind of this this nice little perfect package of food. But then, when you look at the difference between an organic, cage-free, pasture-raised hen versus somebody that’s been caged in their entire life and fed antibiotics or fed GMO grain, an egg is not an egg, and that’s something that people need to be really, really clear about when they’re looking at their foods. If they’re saying, “Well, I just need to eat real food, there’s such a giant spectrum of what “quote unquote” real actually means nowadays. Where when you say, “Well, I’m just going to eat like my grandparents ate, well, 100 years ago, my grandparents couldn’t eat an egg that was chock full of all this garbage. Exactly.
Jayson Calton: Very good. Then
Mira Calton: We don’t have the same food that our grandparents had. Wish we did. That is not just eggs. Yeah, I mean, with eggs, you’re gonna get like seven times more beta carotene, three more times more e6, times more vitamin D, twice as much omega three, like all these things. But then it’s the same thing with like wild caught fish. Wild caught fish has so many more nutrients than these new farm fish. These farm fish are lazy. They don’t even have to swim anywhere. There’s no going upstream and coming back, and literally they’re just in a pen filled with lice and fed antibiotics to make sure they don’t get all infested.
Jayson Calton: And not only that, they’re also fed corn and soy pellets. Yes, it’s mixed with a little bit of fish meal, but they’re using genetically modified corn and soy to feed these carnivorous salmon.
Mira Calton: Yeah, so it’s a completely different thing. So food is not food, and that’s why we say you just really want to find the most nutrient dense food for every single one that you’re looking for. So in the Micronutrient Miracle, we have an entire chapter just going through the grocery store, kind of like we did in Richmond Poor Food, but we do it differently in this book. We actually give you a good, better, best system because we want this to be something you can do for the rest of your life, regardless of where you are financially, and also what part of the country you live in and what’s available to you. So we always choose like a good, a better, and a best for every type of food. Like obviously, we want you to always have the best if you can, but if not, you know, get what you can what you can do. So we lay it out really clearly, tell you the our favorite brands for it, and then again in this one, we give you coupons for our favorites.
Zack Arnold: Yeah, and that’s what I love about this book so much is that it’s not just one little tiny subset of food. I feel like there are so many books out there about certain dietary protocols or just certain. If you want to learn the science of food, but I feel like this just kind of covers so much of it that if you’re just you just want to start in one place and learn about food and learn about macronutrients and learn about micronutrients and how it works in your body. I feel like this is kind of a one-stop shop to get started. But the thing about the book that just kind of blew my mind that I loved the most is the way that it not only helps you understand where you are micronutrient deficient, but also how you can apply those micronutrient deficiencies to specific places in your life to improve them. So if you’re just saying, “Well, I don’t know if I’m micronutrient deficient or not. How am I supposed to start if I don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on blood tests and doctor’s appointments? Walk me through the steps to determine my own micronutrient deficiencies.
Jayson Calton: Yeah. So this is something we did new in this book in Naked Calories, which was our first book, we had a basic micronutrient. Well, it’s not basic; it’s the same one we we gave it to all of our our private clients. But we had a pretty in-depth micronutrient sufficiency analysis. Now we still included that into this book, but now we’ve taken it a step further. We want to not only give you a personal micronutrient sufficiency score based on your diet, your lifestyle, and your supplementation, but we want to dig deeper. We want we have questions in here about what kind of medications you’re taking.
Mira Calton: Yeah. So step one really is we look at where you are right now. What health conditions do you currently suffer from? And I think we have a chart that it starts off at the beginning of the book of probably I don’t know maybe 50 different health conditions, and you look at which ones you currently have, and you have to do the a little bit of a worksheet. You mark down which conditions you have, and then you get to look at which vitamins and minerals that’s depleting. And then, as we work through the chapters, we spend time at the end of every single chapter looking at different lifestyle habits, looking at different dietary habits, looking at everything that is impacting your day-to-day life, and we show you how they might be depleting you of micronutrients, and we ask you to check those micronutrients being depleted against those health conditions that you’re currently having. And you know what people find out? Obviously, they look at their health conditions and they say, “Wow, this was calcium, magnesium, and potassium. And then as they go through the worksheets, they say, “Wow, I’m I’m depleting a lot of calcium, potassium, and magnesium, and so it’s basically to show you. And then the great thing about that is because your health condition was caused by that, and you can see your lifestyle caused that depletion by simply changing those habits. We can make sure that you change that condition and that you can reverse that condition, and we give you the tools.
Zack Arnold: Yeah, and that to me is why this book is so incredibly useful. Is that a lot of books will just be education, or a lot of books will just be step by step, and they kind of need something else to go along with them. And I feel like with this one, you’re really doing both. Where if I read a book that’s really heavy into research and has all this information, I’m like, well, this is great, and I feel educated, but what the heck am I? Supposed to do now, right? It’s like I took the red pill, but okay, great. Now I’m in this whole new universe. I have no idea how to navigate it, and I feel like this book is like taking 10 red pills. But what I love about it is that it’s so simple to follow step by step. Do step one. Do step two. Follow these golden rules. Do these specific things, and then when you get to near the end of it, it’s like, all right, well, let’s say that my specific condition is high blood pressure. Here are very, very specific steps that I can take to actually counteract that using just micronutrient sufficiency as opposed to, well, I have to go paleo or I have to go vegan or I have to be whatever it is. So just talk to me about how we can actually look at some very specific common ailments and use micronutrient sufficiency to reverse those.
Jayson Calton: Yeah, throughout the book, like you said, we really give you a great understanding of the three steps that you need to do, and we go over the food, we go over the lifestyle, and we go over the supplementation, and then we take it to that next level. We give you what we call our signature plan, which is just kind of our overall. You know, if you don’t have a specific health condition, or you don’t really need to work on hormone balance, or you don’t want to lose weight, you just want to find a good healthy diet, you can start with the signature plan. But we’ve got eight what we call condition-specific protocols as well, and we wanted to make sure. You know, I think a lot of books again, again, they try to just one size fits all, and and while we believe that everybody would benefit and will benefit from becoming micronutrient deficient, there are some very specific micronutrients that go along with specific conditions, like Mira’s osteoporosis, for example. We you know it’s medical and nutritional science has shown that specific micronutrients are deficient in that particular case. So we’ve got one for fat loss, we’ve got one for autoimmune. There’s a lot of different autoimmune conditions. Hashimoto’s is popping up like crazy, so that’s in there. We’ve got digestive health, blood sugar regulation for our diabetics and pre-diabetics. We’ve got cardiovascular health. We’ve got, of course, a bone building program. Same basic program that we use with Mira was reversal of her osteoporosis. We have a hormone regulation, and then we did something that’s kind of near and dear to my heart. We did a ketogenic program. You know, again, looking at how the body works, being put into that ketogenic state. Now, again, if a person doesn’t want to follow that, they don’t have to follow that. And what’s interesting is we actually have a lot of vegetarians following the ketogenic protocol, and it doesn’t have to be meat heavy; it just has to be fat heavy. And there’s a lot of really good fats, coconut oil being a great example of it, of plant-based fats that can help you to create that ketogenic state, so you can get the benefit.
Mira Calton: Yeah. So it’s what’s really cool about it is we walk you through each one of these, each one of these protocols, and tell you how they’re different from our signature plan. For example, if you’re doing something because you have an autoimmune condition, you might not want to stress your body. If say you’re having adrenal issues, you’re not going to want to stress your body with exercise the same way you might be if you’re in the fat loss protocol, or maybe it’s going to be more important for you to take a certain extra supplement that has been shown to have great effects for prevention and reversal of that condition. Additionally, your menu plan, because every single protocol gets a unique menu plan, and the menu plan list is based on which foods have the micronutrients that are best for your condition. We call these the powerhouse picks. So your menu plans are actually focused around your powerhouse pick foods. So yeah, there’s 28 day menu plans for each one of the nine different protocols, which was actually a lot of fun to do. Oh my god! We had a great time doing the recipes and everything for this book.
Jayson Calton: I mean, they’re pretty.
Mira Calton: They’re pretty delicious.
Jayson Calton: They’re amazing. I mean, amazing. Like we’ve got. I mean, we’ve got carrot cake pancakes with cream cheese frosting. We’ve got cauliflower cheesy hash browns. We’ve got. I mean, a lot
Mira Calton: Of it was based on different places that we went on when we did the Carlton project too. So, like one of my favorites is a is
Jayson Calton: Moqueca,
Mira Calton: Which is a Brazilian fish stew. Which it doesn’t-it’s not fishy at all. It’s absolutely delicious. You have to make that one, Zack. It’s so good. But we wanted them to be comfort foods that everyone would enjoy and would also expand people’s horizons a little bit. Well,
Zack Arnold: And you you guys basically just stole my next two questions in about two sentences. No, that’s don’t worry about it at all. But the the next two things I was gonna I wanted to really point out are that it’s not just education and it’s not just a step by step plan. It also provides actual recipes that you can implement, and that’s one thing about diet books that drive me so incredibly crazy is that I’ll buy a book that’s a cookbook that has all these great primal recipes, and I’m like, great. So which 1am I supposed to eat when, and how do I balance them out? And I don’t get it, right? So basically, this is just you run through this whole funnel of information where here are the reasons why micronutrient insufficiency is unhealthy, and then here’s this plan you can follow, and here’s how you can address it specifically to your own issues. Oh, and by the way, we also have all the recipes that fit into the plan, so it really is just this giant one-stop shop all in one place.
Mira Calton: And had exercise. Oh, that’s right. I didn’t even get to go
Zack Arnold: There yet. Yes,
Mira Calton: You’re so stoked! Like, really, this is the first. We’ve been able to talk about exercise at all, and it’s such a thing that we, you know, you go to the gym and you see the person there, and they’re on the treadmill, and they look like a hamster. And every day you see them; they’re not going to get any more fit, and they’re on there for an hour, and you’re like, God, please stop doing that, you know. But there’s not a lot of good exercise programs out there, and there’s definitely not a lot of dietary programs that talk about exercise as well. And the reason that we felt like we obviously Jason has a huge background in exercise, I’ll let him tell you. But we look at it from a different standpoint. We know that exercise is a huge micronutrient depleter, so we wanted to make sure that we’re going to give you all the benefits of exercise, all the amazing health benefits that you would get from doing it and doing it well, but we’re going to make sure that you’re not stripping your body and hurting your bones and ruining your joints and and stripping your body of micronutrients at the same time.
Jayson Calton: Do you want to talk about some of the different exercise hacks? Yeah, absolutely.
Zack Arnold: And I haven’t read through every single one specifically, but I can already tell just from some of the headlines that I can see, there’s some influence of your friend Mark Sisson because it definitely seems like there’s a there’s a connection between kind of his primal philosophy and what you guys do. Would I be correct in saying that?
Jayson Calton: Well, you know, certainly we we agree a lot with what Mark says. You know, when in
Mira Calton: Doubt, you can do it outside. That’s great, but most of us are in busy time schedules and we can’t go and you know walk a tightrope. Yeah, of course. The two the
Jayson Calton: Two exercise components of this particular book are actually you know really near and dear to me. They’re things that I kind of brought with me from my past. A lot of people don’t even know that I used to be a bodybuilder and I was in the. I used to own a gym. I used to be in that that that fitness world for many many years, and and now I’m more into the nutrition side of things, but I still really love to teach people about exercise, and most importantly, like Mira said, to get the most out of exercise in the shortest amount of time, and that’s really what’s important. You know, of course, you know, time is a factor that we don’t, none of us have enough of. So, getting the most exercise in for the least amount of time is important, and then when you add on top of that, like what Mir said, you want to deplete as little micronutrients as possible. It’s just another reason these are so important. So our first one is a cardiovascular manipulation, and it’s called zero movement training. Zero movement training. Do
Mira Calton: You love the name?
Zack Arnold: I do. I already want to do it. Like, ooh, I don’t have to do any movement, and I can exercise. That’s perfect.
Mira Calton: It’s it’s actually amazing.
Jayson Calton: It’s it literally is, and we call it ZMT for short. And I remember I was probably about 1617, years ago, and I was doing HIIT training at the time. That’s that high intensity training that a lot of people know how to do. So they you work out really, really, really hard for a little while, and then you go a little slower. Well, I would I was doing this, and I would I just got done with my high intensity portion of it, and I think there was a phone call, and so somebody handed me the phone, and I stepped to the side of the treadmill, and I was talking, and I looked down at my heart rate monitor, and my heart rate was literally through the roof, so much higher than I. I thought there was something wrong with it. Yeah, I thought there was something wrong with it. So I said, “Well, wait a minute, that’s never happened before. When I did my regular hit training, I do my high intensity interval, and then I’d come down. I’d go slowly, but my heart rate never skyrocketed. Well, it turns out that when you rev up the body through your high intensity moments and then stop, the body just goes crazy. The heart rate goes through the roof, and it creates this bell-shaped curve where you literally have a higher heart rate than when you’re exercising at full intensity for almost a minute and a half, it gives you this window of opportunity to literally stand still and do zero movement.
Mira Calton: So zero movement really means zero movement. It’s like standing still and watching everybody else at the gym, which is hysterical when people see you do it. At first, they’re like, “What is she doing? But you’re really only moving for four and a half minutes. Four and a half minutes. If you still have an excuse why you can’t work out, then you you know you’re really creative because there’s no reason why you can’t go do ZMT.
Jayson Calton: Yeah, and the other great thing is it doesn’t kill your joints. You literally, like Mira said, four and a half minutes of movement. That’s it. The rest of the time you’re standing still. There’s a three minute warm up where you’re just warming up, so that’s nothing. But out of the whole time, it’s four and a half minutes of hard movement. The rest of the time, you’re resting. Your joints are resting. You’re not creating that physical stress on the body. And I can’t tell you how many people get injured because of that just wear and tear on their joints.
Mira Calton: It’s amazing for aerobic capacity. It increases calorie burn, fat metabolization, decreases your production of fat cells and increases your production of human growth hormone. Like the really, there’s no. That’s an amazing list of things, and that’s what we all want out of exercise. So
Zack Arnold: Then, give me an example of when you obviously, if I were just to stand up after getting out of bed, that zero movement as well. But I know that obviously doesn’t fit into what you’re talking about. So give me an example of what that four and a half minutes looks like. So if somebody’s saying, “Well, how do I apply this in my office if I have a 10 minute break before a client session? How would I apply this zero movement training?
Mira Calton: The whole thing comes down to 20 minutes. You’re only working for four and a half. So the first thing is like literally just walking for three minutes, or you know, say you’re in your office, you know, just a little march or something like that. And then at the three minute mark, you hit it, and when I mean hit it, I mean like you’re gonna work full bore. Like I want you doing burpees, like for the next 30 seconds, drop, give me push ups, do burpees, something like that for 30 seconds. That’s it. You could hit the heavy
Jayson Calton: Bag. You could do the bike. You could be on the treadmill. You could do jumping jacks, anything. It’s full capacity. Yeah,
Mira Calton: It just depends if he’s in his office. So probably not swimming. Yeah, but but just 30 seconds, and then after that 30 seconds, you just stand there and you wait a minute and a half, and then that’s going to bring you to five minutes. And from five to 530 you do the same thing and you hit it really hard. And then from 530 to seven, you’re standing there again. You do it again at seven. You do it again at nine. You do it again at 11, 1315, 1719, From 19 to 1930 you will literally feel like there’s not another burpee in you. You’re gonna be like, “Oh my god! And then all of a sudden, you’re done. And literally, we’ve had clients tell us like the first time they go through, they’re like, “I only got through like my first four rounds, and then by the end, they’re like, “This is so much fun because I can just get my exercise done wherever I am.
Zack Arnold: Wow, that’s great, and I think that the the other really cool thing about, like you said, is that you can kind of do that anywhere in a very small period of time. And it does it sounds similar to like a HIIT workout, a high intensity interval training workout. Except the difference is that when you’re doing HIIT training, you’re doing something really high intensity, but then you continue moving just at a lower intensity, where you have heart rate jacked up, heart rate recovery, heart rate jacked up, heart rate recovery. But you never stand still. You’re always moving, and even the low intensity stuff, your heart rate is still up pretty high. And you’re like, all right, I’m ready to just take a break. And this is totally different, where you just stand still. Yeah,
Mira Calton: You get a higher heart rate during that standing still, than when you’re doing your hit, which is what’s really incredible during that pause period. Yeah, so
Jayson Calton: You get a heart rate intensity and then heart rate super intensity. It’s not heart rate recovery. There is no real recovery. It goes. It’s from your highest. So the heart rate goes to wherever you are in your highest intensity of movement, and then it goes above that through the whole minute and a half, and starts coming down that other side, and starts hitting around that maybe you know that 140 mark or whatever. And when you begin again, so that’s the real difference. And when you look at the calorie burn, and when you look at the overall just dynamic of something like this, it just flips it on its head. And ultimately, it’s easier than hit training, in my opinion.
Mira Calton: I mean, I can’t even imagine doing something for a solid 20 minutes anymore, which is really like kind of funny to think about because this is just so much fun. Like, it really is not like today. What did we do? We do the old school like stairs machine that actually moves and looks like looks like a stairs in the gym, and you just run up and down this. You run up the stairs, it it keeps moving for 30 seconds, and then you just get down and stop and and wait until it’s time to go again.
Jayson Calton: Everybody at the gym’s like, “Are you done? No, we’re not done.
Mira Calton: Still on this machine. Well, I’m
Zack Arnold: Going to throw in a couple of app suggestions for people that are listening to this and say they want to try it because I do a lot of short interval training in the office, whether it’s with kettlebells or burpees or running stairs or whatnot, and I actually have timers that will set where you can just say, “I want the interval to be minute and a half, and then the 30 seconds. The minute and a half and the 30 seconds. So you don’t even have to look at a clock. You’ll just get these alerts, so you can just follow this, and you’re you’re almost kind of like mindlessly doing it, not thinking about the time. So I’ll throw in a couple of app suggestions in the show notes that I use in the office on a daily basis because I do stuff similar to this, but I haven’t done a protocol exactly like this, and I guarantee that I will be experimenting a lot with this because the holy grail, so to speak, of what I’m trying to discover is with the amount of hours that I work chained to a computer in a dark room all day long. There just isn’t room for me to do P 90x or whatever and take this hour a day, especially when I have two kids and I commute for probably at least two hours a day as well, so there just isn’t time. But what I’m trying to do is figure out what’s the best combination of finding these short interval periods, getting the most out of it. And this, to me, is exactly the kind of thing that I’ve been looking for. So the fact that this is in a book about micronutrient sufficiency, it’s just like double huge gold star bonus. It’s just like awesome.
Jayson Calton: Well, and definitely share some of those apps with us too, because I
Mira Calton: Definitely want to look
Jayson Calton: At that. And yeah, I use this training to get ripped for my bodybuilding shows. I would get down to about four and a half percent body fat utilizing this training. So it can be done. You know, if a person doesn’t, you know, if you don’t want to get down to that, you don’t have to take to that extreme. You just do it less, less often, and less intensive, but it’s great for anybody who wants to lose weight and just do it at a very fast pace.
Mira Calton: And and the cool thing is, like, you can do it at your own level. Like, what’s going to make someone one person work out really really hard is not the same for somebody else. So if they’re just doing jumping jacks and they’re getting their heart rate up, that’s great for that person. Yeah. So it’s safe.
Zack Arnold: So we kind of went off on this amazing tangent that I wasn’t even planning on about exercise. I want to come back to some of the specific things about food in the book, and one of the the biggest things that I have discovered about diets and changing lifestyle is it’s not so much about finding the perfect diet or the perfect protocol. It’s about learning the things that you have to eliminate, right? Because no matter what diet you choose, there are always certain things that no matter what, these are just the obvious brain dead choices that you have to get out of your life, no matter the protocol. And you guys call this the pantry perch. So if just just I mean, you guys have so much information in here. I don’t want you to sit there and rehash the whole chapter, but just kind of give me a bullet point list if I’m saying, all right, well, where do I start? Like, what are the five things that are just the worst, no matter what my protocol is? What do I have to get rid of? Let’s start purging the pantry.
Mira Calton: Okay, let’s purge your pantry. We have sack the sugar. Now, the reason we want you to do this, first of all, is not the same reasons that everybody else has. Yes, it’s going to spike your insulin. Yes, it’s going to make you maybe gain some weight. All these other things. Yes, it’s genetically modified, most likely we go a step beyond, and we tell people that really the reason now everything we tell you to purge is for a micronutrient reason. We want you to know that first and foremost. So sugar is a really big micronutrient depleter. It actually blocks your calcium, your chromium, your magnesium, your vitamin C. I think zinc as well, and so we want you to purge it for that reason. There’s a lot of other things, also obviously metabolic syndrome, and we go into a lot of the different reasons. I mean, sugar is addictive. It can cause insulin resistance. It can cause cancer. It’s correlated to heart disease. It shortens your lifespan. But we want you to look at it from the micronutrient standpoint first. So every time you’re eating that sugar, you’re actually causing your own depletion, and so that’s the reason we we get rid of that. Second one is wheat again, micronutrient reasons. We know obviously that it has got a lot of anti nutrients in it. It’s got oxalates, it’s got phytates, it’s got gluten, it’s got glittan, it’s got trypsin. There’s all these different anti nutrients. So every single bite is making you actually become more and more micronutrient deficient, especially in like your vitamin D, which already so many people are already D deficient in magnesium, where so many people are magnesium deficient, and of course it’s blocking those as well. The third one that we want you to do, so we start with three that you absolutely have to get rid of, and that soy. We say say it ain’t soy. We want you to get rid of the soy again for micronutrient depleting reasons, as well as the fact that it acts as estrogen in the body, which is obviously not something that men want, but it’s also not good for women. Also, slows down your thyroid, and also you know basically is just another one of those foods. We talk about something in this book that you know a lot of people are probably in your group, I think probably have heard because we heard a lot of our friends talk about this that soy lecithin is still okay. And
Jayson Calton: Yeah, we heard that actually on a podcast of a very popular guru that you’re well aware of. And so we, I scratched my head and I said, God, I wonder if that’s true. So we started to do some research, and it turns out that the peer-reviewed medical published research shows that not only is soy lecithin exactly the same as regular soy as far as its negative detrimental effects, but it’s not safe. It’s it’s so so if you’re going to have lethiclin in something, you first of all there’s really no reason to do it. You know, just blend it. You don’t put a lot
Mira Calton: Of protein shakes all the time, chocolate bars.
Jayson Calton: Yeah, chocolate bars and protein shakes. Maybe sunflower lethiclin would be better, but but yeah, the soy lecithin still has the negative effects of soy, and so don’t let that fool you. Just because it’s it’s actually really
Zack Arnold: Funny you brought that up because I listened to that entire podcast about soy lecithin, so I know exactly what you’re talking about. I can’t imagine that we’re talking about two different podcasts about soy lecithin because that’s pretty drilled down into the geeky world of nutrition. So yeah, I know exactly what you’re talking about, and I was kind of on the fence, like, well, all right, I kind of buy that, but like, I would rather just eliminate as much of this garbage as possible and just not have to worry about it. So
Jayson Calton: Yeah, and that’s the idea. When you look at your pantry and you start to look at the foods that contain the soy, the sugar, and the wheat, you’re going to start to notice. Well, maybe not use Zack, but you know the average person who, and maybe even people who’ve who started their journey, their health journey. But you really look at that pantry, and you’re going to probably be getting rid of anywhere from 30 to 90% of the food in there
Mira Calton: Because it’s hiding in so many things these days. The other two things that we really go after in this book are MSG and your plastics, your you know BPA and your phthalates. And here’s the thing: those cuff all in a category called obesogens. They’re called obesogens for a reason. They obisogen you, and and they cause you to gain weight because they play havoc with your endocrine system. They actually promote weight gain, so they’re hiding in all sorts of places. And just because you get rid of BPA in your life and you find another plastic that says BPA free, you know you have to start being a lot more careful than that because what they’re finding out is that each subsequent thing that they try creating in lieu of BPA in plastic is actually worse, and actually is affecting the body even in greater, in greater to a greater extent. And a recent study that was done because everyone, you know, we go to the grocery store. You know they always hand you your grocery slip, the receipt, the receipt, and that’s actually loaded with BPA. But that study was actually interesting. But it was interesting because people always say, “Yeah, but you’re only touching it for a second. And I’ve seen a lot of blogs say you’re only touching the receipt for a minute. Doesn’t matter. I said, “Well, first of all, those poor people who are working with them are touching them all day. Yeah, and that’s just that thermal paper is loaded with BPA, but then they a new study just came out and said you absorb I think it was like 600% or something crazy like that more BPA if you use the sanitizer to clean your cart just prior well to grocery shopping that
Jayson Calton: Antibacterial
Mira Calton: Antibacterial soap actually makes it so you’re a sponge for that BPA in the receipt, and they did a dissect actually saying that it was really dangerous levels that you’d absorb just from that. So if anyone’s hearing me right now, they always have that antibacterial stuff, which is just bad to begin with, but they always put that out there for people to clean their carts. Don’t ever clean your cart and then go take a receipt.
Zack Arnold: So then I’m assuming that means that I should stop the protocol of taking my receipt and putting it in the water I’m boiling for my quinoa. Is that not good?
Zack Arnold: Because i don’t like to throw stuff away. I’m like, well, all right, well it dissolves fairly easily in boiled water, so I just put it in my. Okay, I’m going to stop that. I didn’t realize that was so dangerous.
Mira Calton: Tea bags out of it, but you know, there’s so many so many good things to do with receipts. All
Zack Arnold: Right. Well, I’m going to make sure that my kids stop playing with receipts. Really, really good information as far as how to purge the pantry. And one thing I’ll say, kind of going back a few minutes, where you’re like, well, maybe Zack doesn’t have any of those things in his pantry. I don’t have most of them anymore. But if you’ve seen my pantry five years ago, 10 years ago, and you saw it now, somebody would say, “Who in the world are you, right? Because now it’s like here’s raw cashews, here’s raw almonds, here’s mung beans, here’s quinoa, here’s lentils, and it’s like who in the world did this person become? And it was it’s it’s taken a long journey to figure out what are the things that I can eat, what are the things that I need to eliminate, and it just once you start doing the research and you start doing them one by one, and not getting overwhelmed by oh my god, I have to lose everything. That’s when the change starts to happen because I did do some of those really crazy dietary protocols that were all or nothing over a course of 30 to 90 days, and stuff like that just isn’t sustainable. But what I love about your program is there’s just so much education that you can kind of take it one step at a time and decide to lose these things that are just so bad, no matter what the dietary protocol is. That to me is about lifestyle change, not just starting another diet. And that’s why I think this book is so important. Yeah,
Mira Calton: What we did this chapter right after the pantry purge is just as important as the pantry purge, and that’s the restocking because I’ve seen some of these books also that they say here’s your pantry purge, but then there’s nothing left in your house to eat, and so that’s why we did an entire chapter on what to put into the house after you’ve done that. And I think that’s really just as equally as important.
Jayson Calton: Yeah, and it’s also why we made it a 28 day program. We want people to, and I think what you said was so important. People have to realize that yeah, it’s great to go on some of these programs that just really push you all the way over to the you know the far side for a short period of time, but is that realistic and sustainable? We wanted to give you 28 days where we we showed you yeah we showed you what you could do, but like Mara said we gave you a good, better, best system. We don’t mandate perfection. We we want this to be a lifelong journey. We’re going to give you 28 days to test drive this baby, and I’m telling you, at the end of 28 days, you’ll be amazed at how much better you feel. And that’s a good opportunity for you to look at and say, “Okay, there’s something to this. I really like the few changes that I’ve made. We want you to continue those changes and then slowly but surely build on top of them. And that’s the great thing. This is a this is a true adventure. I mean, you’re buying
Mira Calton: For life.
Jayson Calton: You said 10 years ago, you know, you were eating, you know, some of the foods drastically changed from what they are today. I think back to what I was eating 1015, years ago, and I’m like, oh my god, I thought I was really healthy. You know, I was eating all those great things from the health food store, and I had no idea what a GMO was. I had no idea. I didn’t even BPA. I didn’t even know what existed. I was
Mira Calton: Fat phobic, so I was really well. I also had osteoporosis. Yeah, that tells you how my diet actually was.
Jayson Calton: But I think it’s important to realize that you know when you listen to people like us and yourself, you know we didn’t get here like you said overnight. It was a journey for us as well. But if if somebody came to me today and said, you know, what could I do so that you know, over a period of time, I could really create a healthy lifestyle for myself, I would hand you the micronutrient miracle. We put the information into this book that, like you said, have accumulated for us over the last 25 years of working with private clients, and I mean, literally, to sit down and read this book, you’ll walk away with so much information and information you can utilize right now that will make a big change in your life. I think that it’s the best thing the person could do. Yeah, I
Zack Arnold: Couldn’t agree more. And where I think that this really fits in well to anybody that decides they want to start to transform their life, this to me, if somebody came to me as like, well, where do I start? Right, I don’t. How to pick a specific dietary protocol. I’m reading all these different things. Doctor Google is just giving me way too much information. Like, what do I do? I’d say this is the book where you start. This is where you learn the foundation of understanding how your body works, what micronutrients you need, how to balance them out, how to clean up your pantry and eliminate the worst foods that you can. And then, if you decide that you want to follow a paleo path, there are other books. If you want to follow a plant-powered path, there are great resources for that. But this is just kind of like nutrition education 101, and that to me is so much more important than learning about one specific protocol. And that-that’s kind of where this book fits in for me now. The way that rich food, poor food does, where it’s just this is where you start. This is where you build your entire foundation of information. Then jump off into the other directions, like you said. All roads lead to Rome, right? You just you pick whichever road you want. But this is where you need to start.
Mira Calton: That’s fantastic. I mean, that’s really what we wanted. We wanted to be useful to anyone who, if if they were just getting started, wanted to learn a little bit about all you know what was really important for us. What’s really important is micronutrients, and and we really focused on that in this book. And it’s also really good though for doctors and stuff. Though I have to tell you, we’ve been having a lot of physicians and a lot of pharmacists and everyone jumping on the bad wagon because they didn’t know a lot of this. Yeah, don’t don’t get me started
Zack Arnold: On doctors and their lack of nutrition education. That I could get going on that for hours, and my head might explode.
Mira Calton: It’s been good to be able to educate them a little as well. Yeah,
Jayson Calton: And the nice thing is too, if your dietary philosophy changes, and it will change. It will change over time. I don’t eat the same way I did 25 years ago, or even 10 years ago. It’s evolving. More than likely, people will be eating differently 10 years from now. But the great thing is what you learn in the micronutrient miracle is a foundation of your nutrition. It allows you to change. It allows that dietary philosophy to change, and that’s great. I mean, rather than locking you into something and then you’re like, oh gosh, you know, but I’ve been telling everybody I’ve been a vegan for the last 16 years. What do I do now? You know, we don’t we don’t do that. And I love the idea that you said you learn this first, and then allow your dietary philosophy to come after that. Expand more, right? Put the horse before the cart for a change, and that’s exactly
Zack Arnold: The place that I’m at in my life right now. Is I’ve been on a pretty high fat, low carb diet, and I’ve have nothing but great things to say about it. But I also at a point where I want to start learning more about incorporating a lot more plants into my diet, and I’m not interested in going vegan. But if I can find a balance of learning a lot more about how to supplement with plants and really getting deeper into that plant-powered philosophy, that’s something that I want to do. And I was kind of scratching my head, saying, “Well, oh God, now I have to start over again. And I spent so much time learning how to kind of live a bulletproof-ish lifestyle, but then as soon as I started scanning through your book, I’m like, oh, problem solved, right? Because now I have that base foundation, and I can switch between being plant powered or being fat powered or being meat powered or whatever it is. But I always have something that I can come back to, which is why I’m so excited about this. And I have one more bonus question that I wanted to kind of share with everybody before you guys go. This was just another one of those moments where the sky opened for me. It was the idea of the triple threats, and I’m going to explain why this was so exciting for me because I have been on an endless quest for 10 years trying to find the perfect go-to meal in under 120 seconds. Where if I’m super busy and somebody says you have a producer coming in in five minutes, what do I do, right? And I’ve had other powders and other protein shakes and everything that I’ve always gone to, but I’ve always said, well, I know that nutrients is knocking out everything that I need, but I don’t really feel like I can mix that with anything. And then all of a sudden, I read the idea of taking nutrients, taking your skinny fat, which is a form of MCT oil, but not strictly MCT because it does have some long chains in it, and then introducing a form of whey protein. I’m like, huh, I never would have thought about that before. And about a week ago, I made that mixture, and oh my god, was it delicious! And I’m like, problem solved. So let’s talk a little bit about the concept of the triple threats and how you incorporate that into some of your recipes.
Mira Calton: Absolutely. So I mean, the triple threat is just that. You know, triple threat is someone normally who sings and dances and acts. You got three talents all in one person. So we were like, okay, I got all these different types of micronutrients that I need to have at the same time. I’ve got my amino acids, so I got to make sure to have a great source of protein. So okay, in power protein, which is our way, check, check off that box. We need to make sure that we had a good fat source that was going to help us to absorb these micronutrients. So we need those long chain fats. Check, we’ve got skinny fat. We also wanted the fat to like give us a little bit more brain power and give us the fat metabolization. So that’s also coming from skinny fat, and then from MCT oil, but then we also wanted to make sure we got all of our vitamins and minerals, and that of course is the product nutrients. So we just make a shake, the three things together, and all of a sudden you have an entire meal that gives you every single thing that your body is craving, and it just satisfies you for hours. And then the cool thing is, we started playing with it, and I’ll tell you because at my 3o’clock every single day, I take my PM nutrients, but I take it in a triple threat. But I decided I have a bit of a sweet tooth. I do enjoy desserts and things when I when I make them, which isn’t very often. But I was like, what else can I make this into? So we now make triple threat cheesecakes, triple threat pudding. Puddings, Triple Threat ice cream, and it is amazing because like today at 3o’clock I’m gonna have a chocolate cheesecake, and that is nothing more than those products, which is amazing that I can literally have a dessert in the middle of the afternoon and know that it gives me everything that I need in my body to support all the functions my body needs to do. Yeah,
Jayson Calton: The other great thing, and like Mira said, the only thing you have to do. So the regular triple threat that you’re talking about is you know the nutrients, the skinny fat, and the imp power that creates a shake, and that’s the typical protein shake. But then you just add in gelatin, you know, like you like which
Mira Calton: You need anyway, calories collagen,
Jayson Calton: And this whole other world opens up to you, and I’m telling you, I love them. We we eat these cheesecakes and these puddings and these ice creams, and clients love it too because it’s really the perfect snack.
Mira Calton: And it’s a grab and go, and it’s a great way to get them and get kids to take supplements also because you can make them into popsicles and stuff, and then you know then it’s just a treat. So yeah, they’ve been a game changer for the people who have done the protocol because it makes it so two. We we have people eating four times a day, and it makes it so that two of the meals are just done. You don’t have to think.
Zack Arnold: I love that, and the fact that you just said triple threat popsicles. I’m going to do that today because that is. I’ve got two young kids, and I’m in the. I’m I’m kind of the the black sheep of the household where I’m really into making sure I eat all the right quality foods and into all this nutrition information, but it’s hard to get other people to always adopt all those same things. So there’s just that constant just discussion back and forth of what are we going to give our kids, and this is a perfect example of where they already have popsicles, and I kind of cringe every time, thinking, “Oh my God, I want to let them be kids, but at the same time, I know what doing this kind of stuff long term can do to them. This is the perfect example of how I can give them a popsicle, and they don’t know that they’re getting something healthy. That to me is awesome. Yeah, the
Mira Calton: New nutrient flavors, the new original, which is the tropical twist, which tastes like fruit punch at night, and the orange citrus splash in the morning. We just redid those flavors again, and they just taste like so amazing. There’s no stevia aftertaste. They’re like every. I mean, like my four and five year old nieces are just you know they’re picky, but they even like it. I’m like, okay, I think we finally did it. If I can make them eat this, that
Jayson Calton: Was our. And it’s
Zack Arnold: Funny because those were already my favorites, and those are the ones that I ordered on a regular basis. So if they only got better, I mean, dear Lord, I can’t even imagine because I already love those to death.
Mira Calton: Well, there you go. You’re all set.
Zack Arnold: So before we go, you guys were telling me about a special book offer for my listeners.
Mira Calton: We are totally psyched about this. So we want to give people a lot of bonuses with the launch of this book because we’re so excited about it. And what we did is we went to a bunch of our favorite companies and we said it’s time to give back. We want you guys to give back to people who are trying to improve their health, and they said, “Okay, well, what is it you’re thinking of? We’re like, “We want gift certificates. We want you to give money, give certificates to everybody who buys a copy of the book, and not like we were hoping maybe something small would happen. We it was actually blew our minds how generous these companies were. So this is the situation: if you buy a copy of our book anywhere, anywhere that you can get a book, and you email us the receipt by august 31 you’re going to get is an email from us on september 1. We’re going to send you an email that’s going to have $200 worth of gift certificates for high quality foods. So it’s like $50 to like Vital Choice Seafood and $50 to U.S. Wellness Meats, $50 to Wild Things Seafood and Steaks, and you don’t have to spend any other money. You just go and you buy it, and they ship it to your house. And then there’s $20 at Thrive Market with another $22 in membership, and there’s another $25 to Casadrinos organic olive oils. So it’s really amazing. These five companies are going to give you $200 so that when you do that pantry purge, you can restock.
Zack Arnold: That is amazing, and I can guarantee you that I’m going to be sending you my receipt because I just purchased my Kindle version a couple of weeks ago. So I’m definitely going to be using that. So then, along those notes, when is the book going to be available, and how can people get
Mira Calton: It? So you can buy the book now. It’s on pre-order already at all the bookstores, and it comes out actually on August 11th. We will have a link below, I believe, someplace Zack, to where they can come and learn a lot more about this deal, this promotion that we’re going to be having, and it will give them all of the where to send the receipt and all that good stuff.
Zack Arnold: Okay, well that’s fantastic. And if they want to go to a website to learn more about you guys or about the book, where can I send people?
Mira Calton: Mymiraclegifts.com.
Zack Arnold: And then if they want to learn just in general about you guys, where can they go?
Jayson Calton: They can go to Colton. That’s C-A-L-T-O-N nutrition.com. And if people are looking to buy that book, like you mentioned, and Kindle on Amazon, they’ve got that one. It’s 14. Dollars and 90-seven cents or something for the hardcover version on Amazon. So I mean, you really can’t beat it. And like Mara said, these are not $50 same as cash gift certificates when you buy 200 It’s just $50 same as cash. Period. So you would just spend it like regular cash. And it makes it
Mira Calton: Makes a great gift for someone who’s just starting out. You can give them the book. You can give them all the gift certificates. So you look like a really big spender because you’re giving them like 220 bucks, and really you only spend 20.
Zack Arnold: Well, this has been absolutely fantastically amazing and eye-opening, just for me personally, just being totally selfish. But I’m really, really hopeful that the people listening to the show are going to jump in. They’re going to get this book. They’re going to learn all about you guys and the products you have to offer because you guys are one of my favorite resources for health and nutrition information. So I want to make sure everybody that’s listening go learn about the Caltons and get the micronutrient miracle.
Mira Calton: Thank you so much,
Jayson Calton: Zack.
Zack Arnold: Yeah, absolutely. Thank you guys.
